EXHIBITION
Carnaval version pop !!
Galerie Dauphine, 1st floor
from February 2nd to April 12th 2020
The Marché Dauphine (Puces de Paris Sain-Ouen) celebrates Carnival!
On this occasion, Benoit Ramognino, pop culture expert and Frédéric R, collector, two fervent fans of the plastic masks of their childhood, invite you to discover a unique collection during the first retrospective exhibition devoted to the essential “Caesar” masks. These masks, made entirely by hand in France, were not produced in very large quantities, but some have stood the test of time as if by miracle and for our greatest happiness.
More than 500 rare “Caesar” masks with perfect aesthetics will be presented from February 2 to April 12 in the Galerie Dauphine (1st floor).
“All grown-ups were children first. But few of them remember it.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
What child over the age of 40 today hasn’t worn their plastic “Caesar” mask? Who hasn’t sweated under their mask? Who hasn’t hung their hair on their rubber band? Who hasn’t cried when it split…or just disappeared in a move?
Focused mainly around the world of 20th century TV series, these masks are an intergenerational concentrate of pleasure, real time machines.
From Mickey to Zorro, from Kiri the clown to Goldorak, from American superheroes to French comic book characters, from the 60s to the 90s, rediscover the production frenzy of the “César” company punctuated by the sustained television broadcasting of the adventures of childhood heroes.
The 1978 Christmas celebrations triggered a revolution in the world of toys and derivative products bearing the image of the heroes of the small screen. The “Caesar” masks are the perfect example of these revolutionary products.
