“Rachid Taha was born French in Algeria in 1958. He arrived Algerian in France at the age of ten. He remained the holder of a residence permit all his life, refusing to belong to a fixed territory or identity.
I met Rachid at the end of the 80s at the entrance to the Bains Douches, a hotspot for Parisian nightlife. Rachid collided with Marilyn and the Cerberus at the door. He was finally able to come home with me. It was the first time he had entered the “temple”.
I knew Rachid as the singer of the rock band Carte de séjour. He was starting his solo career. We talked, remade the world, drank a little, laughed a lot… and our friendship was definitely sealed.
Rachid left us on September 12, 2018, leaving behind him an indelible mark in French rock but also on the international music scene. Echoes from all over the world at the time of his death have allowed us to measure the importance of his artistic career.
I wanted to organize an exhibition in his honor, a testimony to the monument that he definitely is. Friends have joined this idea and it is in the form of a collective * that we are working on the realization of this event, with the choice of the artists who follow us with joy, some for having known or crossed paths with him, others for having been carried by his universe and his music.
A way of giving back to Rachid what he gave us with generosity. An event in homage to the friend, to the man, to the party, to life.
