Luis Quintanilla was a Spanish painter who arrived in 1912 at the Bareau-Lavoir in Montmartre, Paris, where he rubbed shoulders with painters such as Juan Gris, Modigliani and Chagall. In 1920 he befriended Ernest Hemingway and the writer John Dos Passos in Montparnasse.
He then emigrated to the United States, where he exhibited for fifteen years before returning to France.
He spent the rest of his life in Spain, where he returned after Franco’s death.
