In 2006, he was the first merchant specialised in vintage hi-fi to set his shop up at the Marché Dauphine, and by extension, at the Saint-Ouen Flea Market. Since then, Hugues Cornière has grown while gaining a clientele that reflects his image: enthusiastic, demanding and ultra-informed. Passionate and enterprising, the man is the one behind the Espace Musique on the first floor of the Marché Dauphine. He likes to tell anecdotes and remembers, for example, having sold loudspeakers that belonged to Jean-Luc Godard, having rented Elipson loudspeakers for the needs of the biopic Gainsbourg (Heroic Life) by Joann Sfar, and having made available a Bourdereau studio turntable from 1962, “coming” from Radio-France, for the film Cloclo.
Specialised columnist for the magazine Rock & Folk, Hugues Cornière has published a book Les Objets Cultes du Rock (Ed. Gründ), prefaced by Philippe Manoeuvre. He organised, as an expert for the Artcurial auction house, the It’s Only Rock’n’Roll sale, the first of its kind, in Paris in November 2013.
